Trevor's Campaign

Since its founding in 1983 by 11-year-old Trevor Ferrell, Trevor’s Campaign has housed 1,700 and served 1.7 million meals to homeless individuals aided by hundreds of volunteers, and has raised national consciousness for their plight. They help the homeless secure permanent housing, find gainful employment, obtain GED or high-school diplomas and assist the children. In American cities, families comprise 40% of the homeless population. Nationally, the numbers are higher: The Urban Institute found that approximately 39% of the homeless populations are children. The average age of a homeless person in America today is NINE years old.

From Passionaries... Shelter from the cold

Trevor Ferrell, Trevor’s Place

“In the winter of 1983, Trevor Ferrell was watching television at his Philadelphia home with his parents when he first heard about the homeless. At just eleven years old, he couldn’t believe people actually lived and slept outside in the cold.

Trevor deluged his parents with non-stop questions: “Don’t they have any place to sleep? Where do they eat? How can they survive without beds and blankets? Won’t they freeze?” His parents didn’t know the answers to most of these questions, but he persisted. Later that night, he asked them just one more question: “Can you take me downtown to help them?...’”
